WHEW I have a lot to say about this week's episode. I was so excited for this challenge, it's one of my favs and there's just so much that goes into it. For RDR Live and other comedy/acting challenges, I personally place a lot of emphasis on the creative spins that each queen adds to their role to make it more entertaining and unique. Since this challenge in particular is scripted, I'm going to analyze each performance with the nature of each role and its writing in mind. With that being said, let's get RIGHT TO IT!
Individual Performance Analysis (Least Fav to Most Fav)
Briar Blush:
Okay so I don't understand the Inner Saboteur thing and I thought it was cringey and poorly written, not Briar's fault. The QNN news anchor though...not it diva. There were a few stumbles in there and it was sorta one-note, where are the facial expressions girl???
Vita Vontesse Starr:
She could've done so much more with her Butch role, and the voice choice was nawttttt it I'm sorry hunny! But her lil solo at the end behind the bar was kinda cute, not much more I can say...
Mia Starr:
Ms. Miaaaa you weren't too bad! BUT when you have a duo role like **two contest announcers**, don't let that other bitch outshine you! That's like- THE number one rule for duo performances don't you remember Ar**ety from last seasonnn? It's alright Mia you got this cmon
Mandy Mango:
GIRL I DON'T THINK SHE DID TOO BAD...? The beginning of the churning bit was funny as hell, and if the character was not SPECIFICALLY written to be mega-modest, I don't think it was a bad choice to make Miss. Amish Granny a lil frisky in my opinion... sorry you were robbed Mandy ugh!
Athena Dion:
Being the host is by far the hardest role, Athena ate down. She made it funny but the role didn't allow for it to be TOO funny, not her fault. Again the Inner Saboteur bit was stupid as hell, took away from Athena's chance to shine.
Discord Addams:
For a small-ish role, Discord did what needed to be done. Her facial expressions were doing the damn THANG, excellent excellent excellent.
Ciarra Myst:
Okay Ciarraaa! Sister was acting boots, she held up pretty well to Jane IN MY OPINION. She was super expressive and was really hitting every line.
Myki Meeks & Nini Coco (Tied):
This is where we get into the queens who I thought performed EXCELLENTLY, it was much harder to rank at this point. Both of these girls added little bits to their performances that really made it so much better. Myki with the double entendre part made FAB vocal choices, and Nini made me giggle literally the entire time with her line delivery HAH the part where she was like "yeah I can see that...I can see that too!" had me cackling. ALSO, big note, the spinning whenever Nini got slapped was SO FUCKING FUNNY I DIEDDDD
Juicy Love Dion & Jane Don't (Tied):
Jane was hilarious, as expected, but the role was also written to be especially funny, which definitely helped her. She could've taken it there, but she didn't quiteeee do everything I had wanted and more yk? Juicy knocked it out of the park in terms of her acting and subtlties in her physical acting that made her performance more humorous, she did a wonderful job.
Darlene Mitchell:
For the smallest written role, SHE REALLY PULLED IT OFF. The fact that her character was one she really already resonated with probably made it a little more natural for her, but she slayed it nonethless. I'M SO PROUD OF HER she's literally my baby I ♥︎ u Darlene keep it up!
KENYA PLEASER!:
ROBBERY OF THE CENTURY RIGHT HERE FOLKS. Kenya absolutely curb-stomped Vita and out-ate Nini downnn her facial expressions were soooo on point, as was her physical comedy. The lipstick-mouth wipe she did after beating the shit out of Vita was the best moment of this whole episode. AND AND AND the little eye lookaround thing she did after when she was talking to Nini's character HAHHHHHHH oh my god too good! Cannot believe she wasn't in the top.
Most Tea Runway I've Seen in a MINUTE
Since I just yapped so much about the maxi, I'll keep this brief. I LOVE this category, I love seeing each of the queens' interpretations of animals in their own style. Overall, this runway was the best I've seen in a longgg long time. Juicy's was excellent, duh. BUT Discord's was my favorite, it was so chique and also made a clear statement, which I adore about Discord. KEEP UP THAT WALK GIRL. Darlene's hooves were FINE imo, because it's not like they were just PLAIN flats hello?? Ridiculous.
Nini's was so colorful and pleasing to the eye, Ciarra was soooo robbed of love for this lewk, it was so spectacular and unique idc idc. Also, Mandy's look wasn't that bad!! In fact, I'm so happy for Mandy because she made a graceful exit while looking gorg.
If I'm gonna be real, I did not like my girl Myki's runway at first. Upon further analysis though, it's not too bad! I still don't understand the Mugler reference. In the wise words of Detox in the RuGirls S18 group chat...
"Mugler? Mug-WHERE??" -Detox
Extra Notes!
In terms of placement, Vita needed to lipsync. She had so much she could've done, poor Mandy didn't deserve that! It was also absolutely criminal that Kenya was not in the top, what??? Crazy. She was by far the funniest out of everyone, and yes her role was written that way, but someone else could've had the same role and flopped heavily for sure.
The teamwork we saw between Myki and Juicy was sooooo cute it was adorbs how they were both hyping eachother up I loved. Speaking of edits and storylines, I WANNA KNOW WHAT MIA SAID TO BRIAR AND VICE VERSA, Untucked edged us all FR.
Last thing, do y'all notice the little hand swivel thing Ciarra does every time she is called to step forward during judging time?? It's so tea and I LOVE IT SO MUCH I've never seen any contestant do something like that, I hope she keeps doing it.
Doodoo Ass Lipsync Part 2 Electric Boogaloo
Alright Juicy get your ass up there and give us a mf show before we all die of BOREDOM. I lowkey have only three things to say, the first being, Briar is hot as fuck I'm so sorryyyy SHE IS SO HOT W THE TATTOOS AND THE MUG Briar hunny if this drag business doesn't work out hmu...Anyways!
Second, Jane was pissing me awffff this episode, what do you mean you're upset and worried you'll make people mad because you're TOO GOOD? This is a competition bb not fuckin best friends race LORD.
Lastly, WHAT DID I TELL Y'ALL? WE DIDN'T SEE THE LAST OF MANDY'S CRUNCHY DIPS I CALLED ITTTT. That's all!
Final Thoughts
I though the maxi challenge was hilarious (with the exception of the Inner Saboteur bit) throughout the whole 14 minutes, and the runway was SOOOOOOOOO good, what an amazing episode! Sad to see Mandy go, Slaysian Royale is calling your name bb!
Current Winner Pick: Surprise surprise, Myki Meeks! Honorable mentions go to Darlene Mitchell AND AND AND...Nini Coco! Nini showed us she could do mf comedy this week y'all...I'm intrigued.
Sorry for this absolute MONSTER of a post! Thanks for tuning in, come back next week for my DESIGN CHALLENGE PART 2 RUVIEW! kisses, ciao!💋
